European climate ideal for all ages.At the end of the 1800’s the royal family
of Vienna first came to notice the particular climate and ambience of Merano,
thus setting in motion the construction of the first grand hotels and of some
real architectural jewels in Viennese art nouveau; the theatre, the old thermal
bath house, the grand Kursaal (cure house) and other diverse villas. You can
find reminds of the golden end of the
Viennese empire in Merano; where the wife of the Emperor Francesco Giuseppe , the melancholic Empress “Sissi”, often visited, where the famous
writer Morgensten died, and where Frank Kafka spent the last months of his
life.Merano is located in a bowl where three valleys meet; the Venosta,
Passiria and Val d’Ultimo valleys. This is the reason for our mild European
winter and the freshness in our long summer days. The highest quantities offered
by Merano, are the comfortable spring, when the apple trees are in blossom, and
the celebrated Merano “Golden Autumn” ; long, colourful and never cold. The city
offers thermal attractions, a racetrack (where, on the last Sunday of
September, one of the more famous and prestigious steeplechases is held),
kilometres of easy walkways creating a panoramic excursion, daily concerts and
folkloric parades (where participants are dressed in traditional attire)
organised by the tourist information
center, the village castles, not the least of which is the Castel Tirol, where
lived the Counts of Tirol, thus giving their name to the alpine region. |
